WHAT do you talk about when the first team haven’t had a game for ten days?

Well, I could talk about the need for 3G pitches, as the weather closes in and games start to get postponed, but I’m sure you’ll hear more about that from our owners as the cancellations come.

Or I could take a second to praise our excellent hospitality man, Bryan.

We have to give Bryan the odd mention, not just for the way he keeps opposition visitors and our volunteers well supplied with tea and coffee but because he’s a Chelsea fan so he’s been even more curmudgeonly than usual so far this season!

But instead I’m going to look ahead at what could be our toughest month of the season.

Of five scheduled matches for December we’re due to face the three teams currently occupying second to fourth spots in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division – Godmanchester Rovers, Felixstowe and Walton United and Stanway Rovers.

On top of that we’ve got Ipswich Wanderers, a team who have defeated us twice this season already, albeit once on penalties.

That then all heaps added pressure on our other match against strugglers Thetford Town – a team we contrived to lose to earlier in the year.

In short, December is shaping up as a very, very difficult month on paper.

If we come out of it with a few points then the lads will definitely have earned their New Year celebrations.

Before that, though, we head to Long Melford on Saturday to take on a side who’ve done very well since getting promoted in the summer, so the end of November isn’t exactly looking easy either!

Finally, we’d just like to send best wishes to reserves goalkeeper George Evenett and the Colchester Athletic striker who were injured following what was described as a sickening collision in Saturday’s game and led to the match being abandoned.

Best wishes to both on a speedy recovery, especially the Colchester forward who suffered a broken leg.

Let’s hope both are back on the field soon.

Come on you Seasiders!
