CLACTON author Chris Cowlin got the chance to play alongside one of his football idols after being invited to take part in a celebrity match against the Tottenham Hotspur Legends.

The event was held at Bishop’s Stortford FC on Sunday to raise cash for autism awareness.

The teams included former star players Darren Anderton, Kevin Watson, Ramon Vega, Tony Galvin, John Lacy, Stuart Nethercottt and actor Ralf Little.

Film extra and keen charity runner Chris played in a celebrity team made up of actors, presenters and musicians, including N-Dubz singer Dappy and This Morning presenter Jeff Brazier.

Spurs season ticket-holder Chris, who runs Apex Publishing in Clacton, said: “I loved every minute.

“For most of the game I played in midfield against former England international and one of my idols whilst growing up, Darren Anderton.

“It wasn’t easy as he was a handful and he is still a fantastic player.

“I jumped at this opportunity when I was approached to take part and it is all for such a great cause. I have taken part in some great charity events over the last few years but this topped the lot.”
