PLANS to build eight new bungalows on a field near Kirby Cross have been rejected.

Developers launched a planning application to create the bungalows on the site off Thorpe Road, at the edge of the village.

But Tendring Council has turned down the bid, saying it would be overdevelopment.

A Grade II-listed building to the west of the application site was also considered.

The council is responsible for preserving the listed building and decided a new development of this size nearby would harm its setting. Frinton and Walton Town Council also objected to the proposal.

Meanwhile, nine new homes are set to be built on an empty plot of land in Walton. The land, off Chamberlain Avenue, was once used as allotments, before closing in the 1990s.

It has been unused for nine years, and previous plans to create flats at the site were rejected.

Now a new proposal to create nine three-bedroom bungalows has been given the green light.

The scheme was backed by district and town councils.
