A WOMAN who was targeted by PPI scammers has warned others not to be tricked out of their cash.

Rita Brunton, of Coopers Lane, Clacton, was phoned by tricksters who said they had a £3,000 payment protection insurance refund cheque for her.

They told her she would have to withdraw £150 in cash and hand it over to pay solicitor fees on the transaction.

She refused and put the phone down on the scammers. Rita reported it to the police and wants to warn others.

She said: “It is obviously a complete hoax and these people are trying to scam unsuspecting people out of their money.

“He said a courier could come straight round to my house and asked if I was at home on my own.

“It’s a little bit scary. They knewmy name and address and everything.

“People have to be warned in case they are going after other people in the area, especially old or vulnerable folk who might not know any better.”
