A LIFE-LONG Clactonian has celebrated her 100th birthday in style.

Marjorie Louvain Brice, of Cavendish care home, in Kings Road, Clacton, was born in the town on June 21, 1915.

She was one of eight children and went to the National School in Old Road.

She later worked at the East Essex Laundry in Coppins Road.

Marjorie married Frank Brice in 1936 at the age of 21.

During the war years, she lived with her three children in Dudley Road while Frank enlisted in “Clacton’s own” artillery regiment at its depot in Sadd’s Yard, Alton Park Road.

He was taken prisoner in Singapore and spent three-and-a-half years in a Japanese prisoner-ofwar camp.

After being demobilised, he went on to work for Quick print works in Jackson Road.

He died in 1977, aged 63. The couple had six children, as well as 41 grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren and five greatgreat- grandchildren.

Marjorie now lives at the care home with her sister Irene, who is 95.

Her son-in-law Martin Young said: “She had a wonderful day.

We had a party with more than 50 people there. It was lovely – we took over the back garden of the care home.”

“The home made her a lovely cake in the shape of a champagne bottle.

“Marjorie enjoyed reading all the telegrams, and she also had a card from the Queen.”
