A FRINTON school was buzzing with wartime celebration as youngsters marked the anniversary of VE Day.

Pupils and teachers at St Philomena’s School got into the spirit of the 1945 festivities with a day of themed fun on Friday.

Children went to school dressed in period costume or in red, white and blue to mark the occasion.

They sang wartime tunes, including Run Rabbit Run and Land of Hope and Glory, while spending the afternoon playing war-era games. Pupils also made patriotic flags and streamers to help recreate the VE Day atmosphere.

Vintage vehicles visited the school and a street party-style lunch was held in the playground.

A school spokesman said: “Throughout the day, the children buzzed with excitement as they marked the anniversary of this important historical event.

“They were totally immersed in the celebrations as they imagined the euphoria felt by the nation 70 years ago.”
