DETECTIVES are appealing to residents to remain vigilant after a burglar claimed to be a policeman.

The crook forced his way into a home in Leas Road, Clacton, at about 12.45am on Sunday.

It is not thought that anything was taken during the incident.

Det Con Louise Nellist, of Clacton police, said: “He disturbed the occupant and claimed to be a police officer checking the property out as there had been a break-in.

“This man was unable to produce a warrant card and was not wearing an official police uniform.

“He disappeared when the occupant started to call police. It is not believed that anything has been stolen.”

The suspect is described as white, aged in his 30s and of slim build. He had short, dark-coloured hair, was clean-shaven and wore a long-sleeved black jacket with blue faded denim jeans. Anyone with information about the incident should call 101.
