SWIMMERS across the Tendring district made a splash to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
More than 90 swimmers took part in the national Swimathon 2015 event at Tendring Council’s swimming pools to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
In total, 46 people took to the water at Frinton and Walton pool on Saturday, including 15 youngsters from Walton Primary School, who raised £600.
The site raised £2,600 altogether, with a further £100 coming from cake sales organised by staff.
At Clacton Leisure Centre, 15 people took the plunge on Friday and another 17 took on the challenge on Saturday, helping towards a total in the region of £2,000.
Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said: “We would like to congratulate all those who signed up for Swimathon 2015 at the council’s pools and put such a huge effort into the event.
“Also, thanks to those staff and volunteers who organised and oversaw the activities.
“They all contributed to raising a significant sum for such a worthwhile cause.”
