AN empty shop in Clacton is set to be transformed into a new convenience store with a licence to sell booze.
The owner of the shop in Tewkesbury Parade, Old Road - formerly a tattoo shop - asked for an alcohol licence for the premises in a bid to launch a new business.
He originally wanted a licence to sell booze from 7am-midnight Monday to Saturday and 8.30am-10pm on Sundays.
But the bid was met with opposition from nearby residents, who hit out at the planned opening hours and said it would create too much late-night noise.
On the back of the opposition the owner agreed to cut the opening hours.
Tendring Council’s Licencing Committee has now agreed to the application, giving the scheme the green light.
Members granted a licence allowing alcohol to be sold from 9am-10pm seven days a week.
The owner has agreed to install CCTV cameras inside and outside the shop, as well as dealing with any litter on the ground outside the store.
