ALMOST 30 people have been recruited to help residents and holidaymakers on Tendring’s coastline this summer.

Tendring Council’s new seafront team is now preparing for a busy season as tourists flock to the district’s resorts.

The 28 new employees, all from the local area, will take up posts in the council-run beach patrol, as well as the roles of seafront wardens, and parking and seafront officers.

They will be on duty in Clacton, Frinton, Walton, Dovercourt and Brightlingsea.

Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said that most of the teams were with the council last summer, along with a few new faces.

“This is a very important service which Tendring Council provides at the most popular beaches and last year they dealt with almost 1,400 incidents.

“The teams had 70 rescue boat and jet-ski call-outs, reunited 69 lost children with their parents and gave out minor first aid on more than 200 occasions.

“The staff also give out advice on beach safety, general information and tackle people concerning dog and cycling byelaws as well as assisting the council’s full time civil enforcement officers and seafront community rangers with wider anti-social behaviour issues.”
