FOOD glorious food left elderly diners asking for more as three care homes staged their own Come Dine With Me-style competition.

Residents and staff from Clacton’s Glengariff, Carnarvon and Corner House care homes visited each others’ dining rooms to sample the fabulous food on offer.

The homes’ chefs cooked up a storm in an effort to score top marks.

Glengariff rustled up a delicious choice of spaghetti bolognese or vegetable pie, followed by bread and butter pudding and custard.

Carnarvon’s chef served up a tastebud-tingling roast turkey with all the trimmings, bean and vegetable casserole, and apple strudel for dessert.

But it was Corner House that scooped perfect tens to win the prize for its choice of parmesan-crusted sea bass with sauteed spuds, or leg of lamb steak, rounded off with tropical fresh fruit salad, cherry crumble and butterscotch ice cream.

Residents were even treated to entertainment, courtesy of a Tom Jones impersonator.

Carnarvon activities co-ordinator Michelle Ranson said: “It’s been a brilliant week. We had to mark each other out of ten, like they do on Come Dine With Me.

“You couldn’t fault Corner House. They were well-deserved winners, but we all got good scores.

"The residents said it was the best week they have had."
