A GIANT model aircraft arrived at a Walton school as part of its Science Week celebrations.

Pupils at Hamford Primary Academy have been taking part in a mass of technology-inspired tasks.

As part of the science week, a team from the Duxford Imperial War Museum arrived to work with youngsters on Tuesday.

They even brought a surprise centrepiece with them – a huge 1/8-sized model of a Boeing B-29 Superfortress.

Inspired by the spectacular craft, the pupils worked together to create their own model plane designs.

Hamford’s science week was organised by head of science Jacquie Chaplin to inspire the youngsters.

The Duxford visit almost fell through due to a funding shortfall, but Clacton company NewLife Building and Roofing stepped in at the 11th hour with a generous donation to make sure it went ahead.

Hamford fundraiser Kathryn Aiken said: “I loved the looks on the faces of pupils and staff when I said we were bringing a B-29 Superfortress to Hamford.

“Just the word Superfortress inspires the imagination.

“We are really grateful to NewLife Building and Roofing for stepping in at the last minute to ensure the students had a fantastic experience.”
