TENDRING Council environment boss Nick Turner said it would look into providing more bins if they were needed.

“Not everyone is aware, but dog poo can be put into any bin on the seafront,” he said.

“It is off-season at the moment and the bins are not being emptied daily. We only have problems with full bins after particularly busy weekends.

“If more bins are required, we will put them in place, but extra bins will see an extra cost to the community. Extra bins will be going out for the season.

“There is still no reason to leave any dogs’ mess on the beach – it is not washed away by the tide now.”

Council officers have been to Holland-on-Sea to assess the problem.

Mr Turner claimed the council was the “piggy in the middle” between dog owners and those calling for pooches to be banned from the beach.

“We are trying to do the best we can without being too prescriptive,” he said.

“One thing we could look at is having doggy beaches and no-doggy beaches.

“We haven’t made any decisions yet, but want to have something in place before the season starts.”

The current seasonal ban sees dogs barred from the beach from May 1 to September 1.

Clacton MP Douglas Carswell has called for more signs and bins along the seafront.
