A FITNESS group took to the beach to play its part in a huge global world record bid.

Members of Brightlingsea’s Free Fit group worked their bodies to the limit on the sand last week.

Almost 50 people turned up to try to help set a Guinness World Record.

The record attempt was organised by nutrition firm Herbalife, which also started the Brightlingsea fitness group.

Bosses wanted to set the record for the most people taking part inahigh-intensity training workout over 24 hours across the world.

Club spokesman Edd Notman said: “It is a worldwide event and there were people taking part at lots of different places.

“Thousands of videos will be made by every group participating and posted on to YouTube to be checked by the invigilators.

“Bringing it all together is a huge task. Even for our small group in Brightlingsea, we had to have stewards and witnesses to make sure it was completed properly.

“It was organised here by my daughter Marissa and her partner Adrian Blowfield. They did an incredible job.”

It has not yet been confirmed howmany people took part due to the scale of the record bid, but organisers believe they were successful.

Mr Notman added: “The free fit club was started as a way of giving back to the community.

We don’t charge anything and people can just turn up. Everyone supports one another and it’s all about supporting a healthy and active lifestyle.

“The record attempt was amazing because it got even more people involved. We had members from Colchester’s free fit club and Ipswich’s free running club coming over to join us. We’re delighted to have been involved.”
