ONE of the largest trade tools and hardware product chains in the country is set to open a store in Clacton.

Screwfix has revealed it will be opening a new site in the town this year. The Gazette understands it could be based in Valley Road.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm that Screwfix is looking to open a new store in Clacton, although no sites have been confirmed.

“More details will follow as soon as possible to keep the local community up to date.”

The company supplies trade tools, plumbing, electrical, bathroom and kitchen equipment. It has more than 350 stores nationally and employs 6,000 people.

Meanwhile, Enterprise Rent-A-Car has submitted plans to open a new branch in Clacton.

The firm wants to move into a former used car dealership at 193 Old Road.

The plans include a valeting bay, but repairs and maintenance would take place off-site.

It is expected the plans would create five full-time and three part-time jobs.

A decision on the plans is expected to be made by Tendring Council in March.
