A WALTON school has been given thousands of pounds of grant cash to investigate the area’s heritage.
Hamford Primary Academy has clinched a £7,800 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
It is part of a sharing heritage grant, designed to help Hamford pupils to research and share the history of Walton.
Kathryn Aiken, a parent and fundraiser at Hamford, said: “It’s great that we have been awarded this grant and we can’t wait to get started.
“Everyone at Hamford is proud of where we live and we know there’s so much to discover about our past.
“We are really excited to tell other people about our findings and sharing our local heritage and history.”
Staff will guide pupils in carrying out a local area study using the cashpot funding.
The youngsters will investigate the history of Walton and the surrounding areas by talking to historians and residents, as well as tracking down historic artefacts and locations that are significant to the area.
They will eventually create a heritage display featuring all of the information they have collected on Walton’s history.
It will be put on display for the community to access over the next nine months.
Any local historians or private artefact collectors who want to help Hamford with the project can call 01255 673415.
