CRIMEBUSTERS have sold hundreds of alarms in the battle to protect homes against burglars.

Kirby Residents’ Association snapped up a bulk order of 500 alarms, which can be attached to doors and windows.

They are activated when they are shaken by vibrations.

The group made the move after seeing a huge rise in break-ins, especially around the Frinton and Walton areas.

The alarms have been sold for just £3 since the end of October.

They were distributed to sales points in Clacton, Frinton and Walton so people across the area can safeguard their homes.

Association members said the scheme had been a huge success, after selling 450 of the alarms.

Chairman Ray Enever said: “We are delighted that so many people have taken advantage of this and got an alarm.

“Burglaries and break-ins can come at a huge cost to residents, not just in the items stolen, but the damage done.

“There have been a lot of incidents here in the last few months and, hopefully, these alarms will make a difference for people.”

Mr Enever thanked everyone who helped make the project possible.

Alarms are still available at the Gazette’s offices in Jackson Road, Clacton, and at the Walton Community Project and Jaywick Community Centre.
