A ‘VEGTASTIC’ barrow will become a regular fixture outside a primary school in a bid to boost healthy eating.
The wheelbarrow of garden-grown goodies was the brainchild of Alresford parish councillor Joan Coates.
She wanted a way to distribute fresh produce and Alresford Primary School headteacher Janet Meacock agreed to join in with the project.
The Jaywick-based Signpost charity, which runs carpentry courses for schoolchildren, built the barrow to hold the nutritious nosh.
And Clacton’s Sainsbury’s store donated carrier bags and healthy recipe cards.
The launch was described as a “fantastic success” with the food being snapped up within 20 minutes.
Volunteers will be distributing free seasonal produce to pupils’ parents at the school gates on Fridays at 3pm.
