A FIRM has been picked to carry out a £1.4million upgrade to Weeley Crematorium.
ATI Environmental UK will start work at the crematorium, which serves the Tendring district, in the New Year and the project is due to be completed next September.
The scheme includes two new cremators with mercury abatement equipment, and extending the current building, in Colchester Road.
There will also be changes to the road access for visitors and staff, and new parking in the field at the back of the crematorium.
Nick Turner, Tendring Council’s cabinet member for the environment, said the aim is to provide a continuous service while the improvements take place.
“It is an opportunity to enhance the bereavement services we offer to residents while at the same time replacing the two cremators which have come to the end of their working life,” he said.
