WALKERS are stepping out to help raise thousands of pounds needed to fund a rescue dog's major knee operation.
Judy, the rottweiler/boxer cross, was given up by her owners in March.
Staff at Clacton Animal Aid centre noticed she was limping and took her to the vets where it was discovered she had a ruptured cruciate ligament.
The injury cannot heal naturally and leaves the dog in constant pain and unable to walk on that leg.
The urgent operation cost more than £2,000 and saw 22-month-old Judy's bones restructured and metal plates inserted.
A sponsored pier to pier walk from Clacton to Walton is being held this Saturday.
Residents are being asked to join staff and volunteers from the centre when they set off from Clacton Pier at 11.30am.
The charity is also calling for towels and blankets for rescued cats and dogs.
