A LIGHTNING bolt struck the roof of a children’s centre in Clacton.
Roof tiles were damaged at Sydney House Children’s Centre, in Langham Drive, at about 3pm on Monday.
But Bob Jillins, team manager of the Barnardo’s-run facility, said it was business as usual despite the strike.
“The centre was struck by lightning causing damage to the apex of the roof,” he said.
“However no-one was hurt and repairs will be carried out as soon as possible.
“The centre remains safe and open as usual, continuing to provide a range of local services.”
The lightning storm came with heavy rain as the remnants of Hurricane Bertha - which hit the Caribbean - crossed the Atlantic and reached Britain on Sunday night and Monday.
