TEENAGERS from Clacton have launched a project to boost the town’s seafront with a new floral display.
The youngsters spent the last two weeks working to clear a cluttered flowerbed and removing tree roots, ready to plant a mass of flowers next month.
They took on the challenge as part of the National Citizen Service summer scheme, set up to get teens involved in their communities.
Charles Goode, 16, from Clacton said: “First we had to measure up the space so we could plan what to put in the garden. It was tough work getting all the roots out.
“We’ll be back in September when it’s a better time to plant the flower bed. It’s going to look really good.”
More than 1,000 teenagers across Essex have taken part in the fourweek National Citizen Service programme over the summer.
It also gives them the chance to take part in action-packed activities including snowboarding and kayaking, as well as planning their own community projects.
