A GROUP of selfless teenagers visited a care home for a day of fun with residents.

The youngsters from Clacton are all taking part in a community course with the National Citizen Service.

They spent a day at Corner House care home, in Clacton, to improve the facilities and spend time with residents.

Some of the teens did maintenance jobs around the home and cleared up the garden, while others gave residents manicures.

They also ran craft sessions and played games with residents, as well as preparing lunches and talking to them about their experiences.

Tendring Technology College student Daniel Bird, 16, said: “I’ve really enjoyed taking part in this project.

“Our aim was to bridge the gap between young and old and see what we can learn from each other and it’s been a great experience.

“I’ve never done anything like this before, but I’m definitely interested in volunteering again. It was great to meet the home’s residents and to put on some fun activities for them.”

The course gives youngsters a chance to take part in a mass of team building activities, including rock climbing and kayaking, designed to develop their skills and confidence.

For the final stage of the scheme they are tasked with using their newfound skills to launch their own community projects in the area.
