THEY may have a combined age of about 4,500 but these plucky pensioners showed they are still young at heart on the sports field.
Forget the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and Tour de France, the only place for sports fans to be last week was Holland-on-Sea.
Pensioners from three care homes went head to head at their annual sports day – dubbed the Clacton Commonwealth Games.
Eileen Knevett celebrated her 106th birthday this year and proved age was no barrier as she joined in the fun.
Pensioners in wheelchairs hurtled down Hazelmere Road Green in the egg and spoon race. Homes boss Ray Hunt said: “After weeks of planning it was absolutely fantastic.
“They competed in a number of events, including beanbag throwing and finished with an obstacle course race.
“Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces showed you are never too old to enjoy yourself.”
The Cavendish emerged triumphant, followed by Gairloch House and Winsford House.
All the competitors received medals donated by Clacton Darts Club.
