FRINTON Cricket Club raised a colossal total to boost a cancer charity in just one weekend.

Big-hearted members raised more than £2,600 for Macmillan Cancer Support in a single weekend in the memory of tragic Frinton teen Freya James, who died recently aged just 21.

About 30 raffle prizes were donated by local businesses for a huge prize draw at the club while two members made donations to boost the cause.

Club official Russ Everson said: “We have had a few members affected by cancer and the cause is particularly poignant at the moment with the tragic loss of Freya at such a young age.

“We decided to step up and do something ourselves and we decided to raise money and draw attention to the effect cancer can have.

“We surpassed all of our expectations and want to thank everybody who gave so generously.”

The cash was presented to Freya’s dad Martin, a cricket club member, who will donate it to Macmillan in her name.
