A CLACTON cadet clinched a prestigious award at a new fire service award ceremony.
The first Children and Young People Awards was held by Essex County Fire and Rescue this week.
It was set up to celebrate the achievements of youngsters and workers who take part in the fire service’s youth schemes across the county.
Clacton was the first area to host the Fire Cadet project in Essex last year, giving teenagers the chance to learn the skills and disciplines needed to become firefighters and role models in their community.
Brogan Bates, 15, is part of the cadet team at Clacton fire station, and was handed the award for Cadet of the Year 2014 for his efforts.
The team of Clacton cadets also used the awards ceremony to present a cheque to Essex Deaf Children’s Society.
They took part in a charity run and cycle event to raise more than £260 for the charity.
