A HOST of Tendring youngsters picked up prestigious Jack Petchey awards.

Awards are handed out by the Jack Petchey Foundation each year to celebrate the efforts and achievements of youths around the country.

Winners from Tendring were given their awards at a special ceremony at the Columbine Centre in Walton.

Among the winners was Danny Savage, 16, nominated for his role at Clacton Cricket Club.

Other young cricket club members Kieron Parkes, Jake Chandler and Jack Oakes also clinched awards.

Each winner is given a certificate and £200 to put into a worthwhile project of their choice.

The cricket club members have put their cash towards repairing the training nets which were vandalised over the winter.

Tendring Technology College student George Johnson, 16, was also rewarded for his after-school dedication to archery.

The Jack Petchey Foundation was set up in 1999 to promote the positive contributions of youngsters to their communities.
