A FORMER Tendring student turned rugby star clinched major success in the Aviva Rugby Premiership.

Mike Haywood, once a Tendring Technology College pupil, won a league and European cup double with his team Northampton Saints this season.

His former teachers celebrated his success, including his standout performance in the school newsletter.

Tendring Technology College PE teacher Neil Masters said: “Mike’s work ethic has been superb ever since being scouted when he was in year eight here.

“We are all really proud of him and at the tender age of 22 he has a bright future in front of him and plenty of opportunity to add to his major successes.”
