A POPULAR swimming pool in Walton will be turned into a top class facility after an extra £400,000 was found to fund a major revamp.
Tendring Council had already set aside £200,000 to refurbish the pool by Bath House Meadow, near Walton seafront.
But plans have now been launched to treble the cash spent on the pool to fund a major upgrade.
The council is £667,000 better off than expected at the end of the financial year.
Councillors decided to add £400,000 of that excess into the Walton pool fund, bringing it up to a total of £600,000.
Tendring Council leader Mick Page said: “We already have £200,000 set aside for this site and we could just refurbish what is already there.
“Or we could think bigger and spend more money and expand the facility.
“I am currently discussing various options in consultation with other cabinet members and will put some firm proposals forward to cabinet over the next few months.”
The bulk of the cash could be spent on improving the pool’s subpar changing rooms and expanding to include a gym.
