ESSEX roads will undergo repairs worth £10million.

Essex County Council has been awarded £4.4million in central Government funding to mend potholes.

County Hall has pledged a further £5.6million to the pot and Essex roads boss Rodney Bass has said the money “will make a difference”.

He added: “We know that highway defects are one of the biggest sources of dissatisfaction in the county.

“It is encouraging that Essex County Council has been awarded one of the largest shares of the £168million Pothole Repair Fund announced by the Chancellor in March.”

Mr Bass also said 20 more road repair teams will be deployed across the county over the next few months.

They will be focused on fixing the worst potholes as well as drain covers, kerbs and pavements.

The council has also pledged £1million for white line painting after the roads have been repaired.

Essex County Council you are a total disgrace. You have ignored Essex roads until they have become an absolute disgrace, hoping to save money. Now you are having to pay, but that will not solve the problem. The roads require skimming and resurfacing. Have you tried cycling along a road with pothole repairs? Still uncomfortable.

White lines? Surely they should be done as routine maintenance?

It isn't a 'total disgrace'; that's unfair. They have limited money like all of us. Be reasonable.

Time for someone to do a Dr Beeching on the roads -- closing them will save money on repairs!

Actually, before any outraged residents of CM8 begin to compose volumes of reactionary hate mail I should point out that that was simply a feeble and pathetic ‘tongue in cheek’ attempt by 'Yours Truly' to induce a certain ‘English Rose’ of that locale into coming forward with an appropriate response.

I have been mortified by her somewhat conspicuous and unusual absence from these columns these last few days. I do so miss reading her tender commentary on things all and sundry.

Where are you my Little Princess ‘B’?..........,

Ompy is missing you...........
