NEW disabled facilities have been installed to boost Clacton and Walton seafronts.

The specialist buildings, created on the lower promenades of both towns, include toilets and showers, as well as having adjustable hoists and benches.

They have been designed to accommodate people with severe learning and physical disabilities in a bid to transform family visits to the sunshine coast.

New wooden ramps were also installed leading down to each beach.

Essex County Council joined forces with Tendring Council to carry out the scheme.

The county council covered the £212,000 bill for the new facilities with cash from its Disabled Children Short Breaks programme.

Nick Turner, Tendring Council coast protection boss, said: “It is vital that we do all we can to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy our seafront and beach.

“We thank Essex County Council for providing the finance for this project and together we are offering something we can be truly proud of."

The new facilities are designed for people who are unable to use standard disabled access toilets.
