VULNERABLE residents in Tendring are being urged to sign up to a special scheme to help them stay safe.

People can join the Keep Safe Scheme, which has been launched by Tendring Council, at Clacton Town Hall on Friday.

The scheme is aimed at older residents and people with a learning disability.

Those who join the initiative carry cards and key rings labelled with essential phone numbers.

If they feel unwell, unsafe or disoriented they can find their nearest Keep Safe venue and ask for help to contact a family member, friend or carer.

Council cabinet spokesman Lynda McWilliams said: “The scheme has the dedicated support of local traders and businesses which have put themselves forward to act as Keep Safe venues and more partners are always welcome.

“It is growing into a very important safety network and we want to see that continue.”

The event takes place from 10am to 1pm.
