TRAFFIC chaos erupted both sides of Colchester after two serious crashes in 30 minutes.

The A133 was closed following a crash between two vehicles in Great Bentley near the junction with the A120.

The road was closed close to Crabtree Farm, between Church Road and the Frating roundabout, shortly before 4pm.

Police, paramedics, firefighters and the air ambulance were called to the scene following a collision between a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a black Audi A4.

One of the vehicles went into a ditch and fire crews had to cut out an elderly man with head injuries before he was placed in the care of paramedics.

At 4.30pm police and paramedics were called to the A120 near Colchester Road, Coggeshall.

Two vehicles collided leaving two male casualties with leg and pelvic injuries.

A critical care team provided emergency treatment at the scene with the road blocked in both directions.

Drivers are advised to avoid both areas.

By 7pm, both roads had been reopened, although heavy traffic remained particularly on the A120.
