A MAJOR proposed development in Clacton has been given highways approval.
The Clacton Gateway scheme would include building a six-screen cinema and supermarket on a site off the Brook Retail Park roundabout.
Plans were submitted to Tendring Council in January this year.
District councillors are now one step closer to making a decision on the project after Essex County Council confirmed it has no objection to it.
The County Council is the highways authority and has reached a series of agreements with developer Britton Construction.
To clinch the green light from highways, developers have agreed to several conditions.
They will make improvements to St John’s roundabout to make it easier for pedestrians to cross at peak times, as well as enhancing local bus routes and making improvements to cycling routes around the area.
The multi-million pound proposal should now be discussed by Tendring Council in the coming weeks.
