YOUNGSTERS took part in a special VE Day celebration with a visit from veterans.

Pupils at White Hall Academy, Melbourne Road, Clacton, marked the 69th anniversary of the Second World War in Europe.

The pupils and staff dressed up to mark the occasion on Friday.

Veterans, residents from nearby care homes who had been evacuated during the war and members of the Clacton branch of the Royal British Legion visited the school.

Dan Casey, president of the branch, said: “It was a superb day. The youngsters have been leaning about the war and gave us a demonstrating of dancing the jitterbug and singing wartime songs.

"Legion member Ron Potts, who is 93 and served in Italy and the Middle East during the war, was over the moon with what they did.

“We were all very proud of the youngsters and that the new generation are keeping the memory of what happened alive.”
