BOSSES behind a major development bid in Clacton have accused Tendring Council of dragging its heels and have launched an appeal.

Developer Britton Construction wants to create a major complex near Brook Retail Park roundabout.

The multi-million pound development, dubbed Clacton Gateway, would include a six screen cinema and a supermarket.

Plans were submitted to Tendring Council in January, but there has been no movement since then.

Developers say the council has had plenty of time to discuss the proposal and want a decision made sooner rather than later.

They are set to launch a Government appeal to force the council to make a decision.

A Britton Construction spokesman said: “Our application has been with the council for more than three months now.

“We think it is more than enough time for them to make a decision and we therefore plan to ask the Government to step in.

“We want a planning enquiry if the council cannot make a decision in the next couple of months.”

A duplicate planning application will be submitted to the council so officers can continue to discuss the plans while the appeal is ongoing.
