A SCHOOL will be demolished and rebuilt after politicians at Essex County Council gave the proposal the go-ahead.
Market Field School in Elmstead Market, is a community special school for children aged four to 16.
Its students have moderate learning difficulties and there is a specialist provision for children with autism.
In recent years the school has taken on more pupils by temporary enlarging the building.
But this is no longer fit for purpose, so the school will be rebuilt to accommodate 200 pupils permanently.
The council’s cabinet unanimously agreed a recommendation to pass the plan on Tuesday and a contract will now be signed with Lakehouse Contractors Limited who will complete the work.
The building will be demolished and rebuilt between summer 2014 and summer 2015, meaning students will be able to move in September 2015.
While the work is completed the students will study at Alderman Blaxill.
Work to adapt the school to make it suitable for the children to study there temporarily will cost about £300,000.
The rebuild will also improve parking issues and reduce maintenance costs.
