TWO Brightlingsea Sailing Club boats will battle it out for bragging rights in a race around the Isle of Wight.

Skippers Geoff Gritton and Bill Parsons will lead their crews on the 50-mile course on June 21.

The crews will be among 16,000 sailors taking part in the race.

The JP Morgan Round The Island Race is one of the world’s largest yacht races, regularly attracting more than 1,700 boats.

It is the UK’s fourth largest sport participation event, after the London Marathon and the Great North and South Runs.

Geoff’s quarter-ton boat Panic and Bill’s 41-foot Saarena will both take their place on the Round the Island start line.

The Round the Island race sees enthusiastic amateurs lining up against the world’s best sailors.

America’s Cup winner and four-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Ben Ainslie will be among the competitors in next month’s race.
