A SHADOW Government minister visited Jaywick to see insulation work carried out on hundreds of homes.

Labour MP Tom Greatrex visited homes in the Brooklands area that received free work as part of the Insulating Jaywick scheme.

The Government scheme saw firms such as Ice Energy spend millions of pounds upgrading about 1,000 properties in the deprived ward with new boilers, windows and insulation.

Many residents were left upset after a change in criteria meant works to improve homes were stopped.

It meant people with existing gas central heating were excluded from the works, which were funded by energy firms as part of the Energy Companies Obligation scheme.

Mr Greatrex met ward councillors Nick Brown and Dan Casey before looking at some of the 650 homes improved by Ice Energy.

He also called for the funding for all homes in the area to be reinstated to help the country meet climate change carbon emission targets.
