A YOUNGSTER from Clacton has been handed a prestigious award naming him the most outstanding sea cadet in the area.
Scott Fisher clinched the award after a whirlwind year of activities with the Walton Royal Marine Sea cadets.
A year 12 student at Clacton County High School, Scott has been a sea cadet for three years.
Over the past year he has completed a five-day 80-mile kayaking expedition through the Wye Valley, as well as completing his Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.
He also passed his Corporals Board exam, gained a first class result in his marine engineering exam and passed his British Canoe Unit one and two star awards.
The achievements earned him the prize for most outstanding cadet in the London area – the first time a cadet from Walton has won the award.
Clacton County High spokesman Simon Kedge said: “Scott won the recognition for his outstanding commitment to the Sea Cadet Corps, his thorough knowledge of the Royal Marines’ traditions and history, along with his drive and determination.”
