A RESCUE team was sent to help a dog after a member of public reported seeing it being swept out to sea.

Coastguards received an emergency 999 call after the struggling dog was spotted in the water near Walton Pier.

Walton Coastguard Rescue Team was launched to help the dog, but it managed to swim to the shore on its own.

The team made sure the dog was safe and well and supported the distressed owner.

It happened just before 5.30pm on Monday.
