WALTON schoolchildren are celebrating the arrival of ten tiny chicks just in time for Easter.
Hamford Primary Academy created a new home for hens in February after being given a £1,000 donation by the East of England Co-op.
The school shelled out £1,195 on a coop, food, equipment and three hens to boost pupils’ learning.
A chicken club has been formed and Hamford youngsters have been taking it in turns to care for the creatures.
And they are now celebrating after successfully hatching ten tiny chicks.
Benedick Ashmore-Short, academy principal said: “Observing and looking after the hens and their chicks is a wonderful way for the children to re-engage with the natural world.
“It allows them to discover more about how food reaches them and what a healthy diet and lifestyle consists of.”
