Last mum to give birth in Clacton says maternity unit must stay open
THE last woman to give birth at Clacton’s now-closed maternity unit says it cannot be allowed to shut permanently.
Katy Griggs, 33, of Holland Road, had her third child at her home-town unit on March 14 - just two days before it closed.
She sang the praise of staff who helped her through the birth.
Katy said: “I’m so sad to read about the closure of the unit. I think I may have been the last person to deliver there and I had a wonderful experience.
“I have given birth three times, once in Colchester and twice in Clacton. The care provided in Clacton is so much more personal and attentive.
“I worry that for ladies like myself who have quick labours, they won’t be able to make it safely to Colchester."
