A SITE for touring caravans has been given the go-ahead to expand despite heavy opposition.

Positiv Park Developments currently runs a site for five tourers on a plot of land in Heath Road, between Chisbon Heath and St Osyth.

It has now been given permission to increase its capacity to 15 caravans, 15 tents, six glamping pods and a new utility block.

The scheme was given the green light by Tendring Council despite concerns from some councillors and a petition signed by every home in Chisbon Heath.

Residents in the area said it would be out of character with the area and create extra noise, as well as increasing traffic and flooding issues.

But the majority of councillors hailed it as a significant boost to tourism in Tendring.

Siggy Challinor, council planning committee chairman said: “This is just the type of site I would choose to go to without all the extra facilities.

“The type of people who will want to visit will respect the area and I fully support this.”
