Hundreds of scooter fans are expected in Clacton this weekend.

First published in News

HUNDREDS of scooters will invade Clacton seafront this weekend to mark the 50th anniversary of the infamous Clacton Riots.

Modern-day mods from all over the country are expected to roar into the resort.

It’s half a century since the ‘mods and rockers’ clashes of 1964.

Organiser Robin Quartermain, of Chelmsford Scooter Club, promised this Sunday’s invasion would be friendly.

“People are coming from all over the place - London, Essex, Norfolk and even further afield," he said.

“We are expecting at lead 500 scooters.”

The convoy sets off from Chelmsford on Sunday morning before picking up more riders at Colchester United’s Community Stadium and reaching Clacton by midday.

Great choice of day - Mothering Sunday. Lots of extra people on the roads visiting their mums, going out to lunch now having to cope with 500 scooters no doubt en masse or in club convoys...

What a great day, I am one of the 600 mods that invaded Clacton on Sunday..
Our club "The Collective" found a warm and friendly reception from the locals.. In fact I did not hear a single scooterist complain..!!
You will always get some people who just moan about anything, thats life good luck to them... So a big thankyou to the resident and officials of CLACTON you were great..... in fact we might come back next year..!!

As most of the originals must be in their late seventy's I hardly think they pose a problem, modern scooter riders are well behaved, in fact some car drivers that I have seen around Clacton need to retest and learn some road manners which have declined over the last few years

Perhaps we can put some music on next time.
