CLACTON’S air show could see bumper crowds again this year after it was revealed Southend’s Air show and Military Festival has been cancelled.

For the second year running Clacton Air Show, which attracted more than 140,000 people last summer, is the only one running on the east coast.

In October it was announced that Lowestoft’s event would not go ahead in 2014 because organisers could not raised enough money.

Now air show bosses in Southend have postponed their event until 2015 due to lack of funds.

Tendring Council tourism boss Mark Platt said: “This is a very difficult climate for large-scale events and I am proud that despite the cancellation of Southend’s air show and others on the east coast, Tendring Council has continued not only to stage the Clacton Air Show, but to ensure it is bigger and better than ever.

“By continually looking for ways to increase income and drive down costs, we can continue to sustain an event which brought around £6million into the local economy last year.

“I am extremely excited by our plans for this year’s event, which I hope will surpass the success of previous years.”

Clacton Air Show takes place on August 21 and 22.
