A COMMUNITY hero has died after a battle with lung cancer.

Brian Rowlen spent his whole life in the Clacton area and became a major part of a host of clubs and organisations.

A bank manager by day, Mr Rowlen was a stalwart of Clacton’s bowls and table tennis clubs in his spare time.

In 2008 he was given an award by Tendring Council for his outstanding contribution to sport in the area.

Alongside his table tennis commitments, Mr Rowlen became lifeboat station manager for the RNLI in Walton.

He eventually lost a hard-fought battle with lung cancer on March 12, aged 74.

Brian’s funeral takes place at Weeley Crematorium on Thursday 27th March at 11.00 am.
