FIREFIGHTERS rolled up their sleeves to raise hundreds of pounds during a charity car wash.

Fire crews cleaned more than a hundred cars and vans as part of the fundraiser, which took place at Clacton fire station, in St John’s Road, on Saturday.

The station’s White Watch raised more than £530 for the Firefighters’ Charity and St Helena Hospice during the event.

Leading firefighter Pete Woodiwiss said: “It was part of a national event in aid of the Firefighters’ Charity, but we were also raising money for the hospice because one of our crew, Karen Nicoll, is raising money for them with a charity bike ride from London to Paris on May 14.

“It was a very good day for the car wash with the weather, but it was hard work

"We washed more than 100 cars so it was well supported by local people.”

Another charity car wash also took place in Frinton.
