A DERELICT eyesore which is being turned into a family home will also be extended to provide facilities for a disabled tenant.

The house in Berkeley Road, Clacton, was bought by Tendring Council as part of a compulsory purchase last year after being abandoned by its owner.

It had stood empty for around 13 years and had become a target for vandals and arsonists.

It is now being repaired and renovated so it can be used to house council tenants.

Plans for a new single-storey extension to the property, which will provide disabled facilities and an access ramp, have been approved.

Funds to buy the property came from money received from developers as part of their planning permissions.

Tenants are lined up for the house and the disability facilities are needed for a member of the family.
