Tendring Council vice-chairman Val Guglielmi today raised a flag outside Clacton Town Hall to mark Commonwealth Day.
It was one of 500 flags to be flown around the country and all those taking part received a message from the Queen.
It was the first time ever, local authorities and civic dignitaries, community groups and charities throughout the British Isles took part in the special local flag-raising events and ceremonies of dedication.
Mrs Guglielmi said: “I was deeply honoured to be able to raise the Commonwealth Flag on behalf of all the residents of Tendring. It was history in the making and it was a privilege for TDC to take part.”
